Last night producer Darla K. Anderson and director Lee Unkrich were on hand at the D23 convention to talk about Toy Story 3 and introduce the Toy Story 1 & 2 3D double feature to U.S. audiences. Here’s a recap:
Trailers – We were shown the TS1 & TS2 3D trailer and the Toy Story 3 Theatrical Trailer again. Check out my previous posts for more details on that.
Groovin’ with Ken – This was shown again (it was previously shown with John Lasseter’s presentation and I forgot to mention it). It’s a “lost” interview that Pixar uncovered. It’s really quite clever. It’s a short interview with Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton) at his Dream House. He talks about how cool he is and then the interviewer starts asking questions like why Barbie’s font is 8 times bigger than his on his toy package and Ken gets irritated and ends the interview. Very funny stuff.
Spanish Buzz – Lee Unkrich introduces some wonderful test footage of Buzz doing a Mexican dance (with Jessie watching in awe) by Pixarian Carlos Baena. I really hope this is included on the eventual Blu-ray release.
Exclusive Extended Scene from Toy Story 3 – Yep, you heard me right. They showed us a 5 minute clip from the film! Spoilers ahead…..Andy’s mom says that college is three days away and Andy must clean his room and decide what goes in the attic, what goes with him to college and what goes in the trash. I don’t really want to spoil it for you (if you really must know, send me an email), but Andy makes some tough decisions and then things go haywire. Bottom Line: the movie looks magical! Everything was pitch perfect (the animation, voice acting, etc.) and just made me long for June 18, 2010! Should be amazing!
Toy Story 1 & 2 Double Feature – Before the double feature, Pixar has added some wonderful retro 2D animation that shows a shadow of Rex asking questions and 2D versions of other Toy Story characters. They go over wearing your 3D Glasses and the 10 minute intermission. It’s really inspired stuff. I asked Lee Unkrich about it via Twitter and he said that the animation was done by Pixar with character designs byhis talented story artist Adrian Molina.
