Toy Story Mania! for the Nintendo Wii is a video game that’s inspired by the groundbreaking attraction found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and Disney’s California Adventure Park. The game consists of 10 shooting galleries based-off classic midway games, such as the ring toss and balloon throw. Many of them are easily recognizable to anyone who has ridden the ride. But that’s not all, they have also included 30 additional minigames for your enjoyment. Woody, Buzz, Rex and the rest of the toys are all along for the ride. They provide tutorials and encouragement as you progress through the game.

Gameplay:
If you have previously ridden the attraction, you’ll recognize some of the games here such as Bo-Peep’s Balloon Pop and Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers. These are not direct copies of the ride and many feature extra hidden items along with various objectives to complete for each game (score a certain number of points, hit three aliens in a row, etc.). I really enjoyed the more straightforward games (which required precision), but did not have as much fun with the mini games and task that revolved around using Nintendo’s motion controller. Spinning and cranking on the Wii remote proved to be tedious and took some of the skill out of those games or sections of those game. I would imagine that smaller kids may enjoy this aspect of the game. Bottom line though is that most of the games are very fun and worth the time to play. The game includes both a story mode (where you are awarded tickets based on completing objectives) and a freeplay mode. Tickets earned can be used to unlock various bonuses such as additional mini-games, stamps and virtual stickers. In addition, five of the games are also offered in 3D, with two 3D glasses being packaged in with the game.

Graphics/Audio:
The visuals are on par with most Wii games. While they are certainly not Pixar quality, I found the graphics bright and colorful and they did a nice job representating our favorite Toy Story characters. The audio and music are also well done, but some of the voice actors are soundalikes (such as Woody and Buzz). I did recognize the voice work of some of the supporting cast (such as Rex).

Replay Value:
This is where Toy Story Mania! really shines. The game is lot a fun with more than one player and there’s plenty of challenges to complete and goodies to unlock. The game supports up to four players and features two player simultaneous play.

Final Thoughts:
This is a real fun game (especially with multiple players) and does a great job capturing the spirit of the Toy Story Mania attraction and the franchise in general. Recommended!
