Tidbits
- The code name for the film during production was Hidden City. A favorite restaurant of the team (and later featured in the Wall-E teaser trailer) .
- The film went through many versions including a 32 year old man who could see “monsters” and a version with “top scarer” Johnson (Sulley) with no sidekick (Mike Wazowski).
- Boo’s original name was Mary. Andrew Stanton suggested that the name be changed to Boo. At different points of story development, Boo was Irish, a fearless seven year old and Pixar’s first African American character.
- This was the first Pixar film where each main character had a lead animator.
- The film is responsible for a huge leap forward in fur simulation/physics. Sulley alone had over 2,3 million hairs that were rendered.
- Pixarians that provide voices include Bob Peterson (Roz) & Jeff Pidgeon (Bile) and Samuel Black (George).
- At the time of its release, Monsters, Inc. became Pixar’s highest grossing film (surpassing Toy Story 2).
- Monsters, Inc. won the Academy Award for Best Song (“If I Didn’t Have You”). It was also nominated for Best Animated Feature and Original Score.

- Monsters, Inc. has inspired three attractions at Disney theme parks.
- Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue opened at Disney’s California Adventure in 2006.
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2007.
- Monsters, Inc: Ride & Go Seek opened at Tokyo Disneyland in 2009 and is the most impressive Monsters, Inc. attraction yet.
