Tidbits

  • Ratatouille’s story roots can be traced back to 2000. Original director Jan Pinkava was having trouble with the story and many screenwriters (Emily Cook, Kathy Greenberg and Bob Peterson) took a stab at it.  Brad Bird was asked to take over production in July of 2005 and Jan Pinkava left the project.
  • Amongst Brad Bird’s changes to the story: Gusteau was “killed off”, eliminated Remy’s mother and other siblings and created a much larger role for the character of Colette. Remy was also made more confident and focused on his life long dream to be a cook.
  • Creating CGI food animations that would appear delicious was a major challenge. Gourmet chefs in both the U.S. and France were consulted and animators attended cooking classes at culinary schools to understand the inner-workings of a restaurant/kitchen.
  • Pixar voice talent used in the film include Lou Romano (Linguini), Peter Sohn (Emile), Teddy Newton (Lawyer), Tony Fucile (Health Inspector) and Brad Bird (Ambrister Minion).
  • The film won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. It was also nominated for Best Original Score, Achievement in Sound Editing, Achievement in Sound Mixing and Best Original Screenplay.
  • Empire magazine ranked Ratatouille #379 on their list of the 500 Greatest Films of All Time.
