Tidbits

  • Brad Bird’s original pitch included a main villian named Xerek. Syndrome was supposed to die early in the film. According to reports, Lasseter liked Syndrome better, so he became the focus.
  • Bird insisted that the storyboards define the blocking of characters’ movements, lighting and camera moves. In previous Pixar films, this was usually handled by other departments.
  • “Subsurface scattering” was used to allow the animators to mimic human skin more effectively.
  • Character designs were created by Tony Fucile and Teddy Newton, whom had worked with Bird on The Iron Giant at Warner Bros.
  • Any similarities to Watchmen were purely coincidental as Brad Bird had never even read the acclaimed graphic novel.
  • Pixarian voice contributions include Brad Bird (Edna Mode), Bret Parker (Kari, the Babysitter) and Bud Luckey (Rick Dicker).
  • The film won Academy Award awards for best animated film and Best Achievement in Sound Editing. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Achievement in Sound Mixing.
  • The Incredibles was the last Pixar film to be released on the VHS format.
  • Empire magazine ranked The Incredibles #400 on their list of the 500 Greatest Films of All Time.
