- A partially completed version was screened in August 1988 at SIGGRAPH.
- A sequel to Tin Toy called “A Tin Toy Christmas,” was originally planned as a half-hour long television special in an effort to convince film studios that full length feature was viable. This idea was brought to the table at the initial talks with Disney for Toy Story, but Disney was uninterested in the concept and Pixar moved forward with Toy Story as a feature length film.
- Tin Toy received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short.
- In 2003, the United States National Film Registry chose Tin Toy as one of the 25 films to preserve because of its “cultural, historical or aesthetic significance.”
